Transport
Don was the Liberal Democrats' party spokesman on transport issues between 1999 and 2003. In this section of the web site you can find out about the work that Don has done, and the work still to come.
Transport is an important national issue and Don has been proud to speak for the party and his constituents on this area of policy.
Air
In 2000, Don spoke against the privatisation of air traffic control saying
that there should be no auction of Britain's skies. He lead an opposition
'supply day' opposing the plan. He further strove to seperate NATS (National
Air Traffic Services) from the Civil Aviation Authority.
Don continues to monitor the work of NATS, and has spoken out on the need to ensure the company retains safety at its core, and not be swayed by commercial concerns.
What Don has said about air travel:
Rail
No single means of transport has dominated the headlines and thoughts of people
around Britain over the last few years than the railways. Don has taken this
issue to the heart of his national work, and regularly employs his extensive
knowledge on the subject in Parliament and beyond.
