Don Foster MP welcomes report recommendations to help local pubs

Don Foster, MP for Bath, has joined CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) in welcoming the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee Report that calls for reforms of regulations governing Pub Companies.

CAMRA has long warned of the detrimental effect Pub Companies have on consumers and pubs in general, with research showing that tied pubs are 50% more likely to close than freehold pubs.

The report concludes that Statutory Code of Practice is required “for an industry that has too long failed to put its own house in order”. Under reforms, large pub companies would be required to provide free of tie and guest beer options.

Commenting, Don Foster said:

“It is a distressing but genuine fact that too many UK pubs are forced to close due to the exploitative business models of large pub companies.

“Implementing committee recommendations would benefit pub licensees, communities and the consumer. I urge the Government to take action.”
