Commenting on the recent “Tea Time for Change” event in parliament, Don Foster MP has said that he welcomes the cross NGO lobby action. The lobby aimed to ensure the UK keeps its promise to spend 0.7% of GNI on International Aid by 2013, to crackdown on corporate tax avoidance and to champion the Robin Hood tax.

The event was sponsored by ActionAid, CAFOD, Bond, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Save the Children and Tearfund. Don Foster, who attended the lobby event, heralded the aims as a “dramatic but necessary change to the UK finances”.

Commenting Don Foster said, “This Government has been unequivocal in its commitment to International aid. I am delighted that this coalition Government is going to live up to its promise of increasing international aid to 0.7% of GNI by 2013.

He continued, “Equally, I am a passionate advocate of the Robin Hood tax; it is only right that that banks, hedge funds and the rest of the financial sector should pay their fair share to clear up the mess they helped create. It does however need to be applied globally for it to be credible and effective. This tiny tax on the financial sector could generate up to 20 Billion pounds in the UK alone.”
