Sustrans Successful!

It was announced last Wednesday that the Sustrans Connect2 scheme had won the public vote for £50 million of lottery money. The scheme will benefit over 70 communities nationwide and the Bath area will benefit to the tune of £1million as the Two Tunnels project is part of the scheme.

Thank you very much to everyone who cast their vote for this project, be it either by telephone, text message or e-mail. I have learnt that Sustrans received 42% of the vote, winning by a margin of 13%. A very convincing margin, I think you’ll agree.

I’d like to personally congratulate everyone who has been a part of the Connect2 scheme and especially the Two Tunnels project here in Bath. They have worked very hard to achieve their goal and no doubt they will be putting in just as much effort to see the project through to its conclusion.

New Lib Dem Leader

Nick Clegg was announced yesterday as the new leader of the Liberal Democrats. Nick is looking forward to touring the country with a view to listening to as many people as possible. He is very enthusiastic, and is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

As of now, we don’t yet know the make up of our front bench (although there is set to be an announcement before Christmas), but James Purnell (the Minister) had some kind words to say if it was indeed to be my last Question Time as party spokesperson for Culture, Media and Sport:
I hope that this is not the hon. Gentleman’s (Don Foster) last Question Time as sports spokesman—there is an upcoming reshuffle, in the light of the leadership contest. I say sincerely to him that he is a credit to Opposition spokesmen. He is always a master of detail, constructive when necessary and tough when he feels he needs to be. I hope that we see him again.
