The Coalition Government has revealed details of the £500m Growing Places Fund. The fund aims to create jobs by stimulating local construction work and housing development.

The West of England Local Enterprise Partnership is receiving £11,324, 861 for projects which will develop local infrastructure including transport and utilities.

Don Foster, MP for Bath said:

“This funding will give a much-needed boost to businesses in Bath and the wider region.

“It will help to create jobs, get the homes we vitally need in the city built, and improve Bath’s transport links that are crucial to businesses and residents.

“The search is now on for the most beneficial, innovative projects in Bath. I warmly encourage all local construction businesses to submit their bids by the December deadline.”

Liberal Democrat Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, said:

“The Growing Places Fund will make a real difference at the grass-roots level, improving the lives of residents and creating jobs.

“Through local councils’ technical and financial expertise, the fund will enable businesses to be released from the constraints of regulatory red tape.

“The fund shows Liberal Democrats’ commitment to stimulating growth through local communities. Local prosperity is crucial to Britain’s ability to support a dynamic and sustainable economy.”
