Foster urges residents to support Bath band at Glastonbury Festival

Don Foster, MP for Bath has today urged Bath revellers attending Glastonbury Festival this week to turn out and show their support for local Bath band, Largo Embargo.

In April this year, the five piece ska band beat off stiff competition from around the region to win the 2011 Live and Unsigned - a ‘battle of the bands’ competition organised by Avon and Somerset Police.

After winning the grand final at Bristol’s Colston Hall, the Bath group were rewarded with a place on the bill at the world famous festival. Largo Embargo will perform on Saturday 25th at 11am on the BBC Introducing Stage.

Commenting, Don Foster said: “Glastonbury Festival really is one of the greatest live events on earth and it is fantastic that one of our local Bath bands will be taking to the stage.”

“Glastonbury Festival is part of a proud musical heritage here in the South West and it is great to see that young Bath musicians will have the chance to showcase their talent - I’d urge all Bath festival-goers to drop by and show their support to Largo Embargo.”

Last year, Don Foster introduced a Live Music Bill to the House of Commons which would have freed many smaller venues to host more music. And as the party’s culture spokesman at the last election, he ensured that plans to encourage live music were included in the Lib Dem manifesto.

“Large scale live music events contribute millions to the UK economy and are a huge part of British culture. In Bath we have a calendar full of fantastic live events; having an internationally renowned festival on our doorstep further enhances the reputation of the South West as a cultural tourist destination.”
