Don Foster MP has seconded EDM 2266 on the London 2012 Olympics. The EDM reads:

That this House looks forward to the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics as a unique opportunity to showcase the best of British talent; recognises that the UK has an unrivalled reputation for staging large scale live music events from Live Aid through to the recent Take That concerts at Wembley Stadium; and therefore looks forward to the inclusion of live music in the ceremonies, particularly given that live music, from Glastonbury to the Proms, is one of the top reasons that tourists give for visiting the UK.

Don Foster signs EDM 2257 - ANTI-SLAVERY DAY 2011

Don Foster has signed EDM 2257 on Anti-Slavery Day 2011. The EDM reads:

That this House stands together on Tuesday, 18th October, 2011 to mark the United Kingdom’s Anti-Slavery Day and the European Union’s Anti-Trafficking Day; notes with profound regret that far from being resigned to the history books, slavery is still a major problem with at least twelve million people around the world enslaved today according to a United Nation’s estimate; further notes that the actual number of people that are enslaved is likely to be far greater; recognises that slavery is still a problem in the United Kingdom, with domestic servitude and forced prostitution being amongst the most common forms of slavery found in this country; further notes that greater steps need to be taken to ensure that the London 2012 Olympic Games do not provide opportunities for criminals to enslave and traffick more people into the United Kingdom; and calls on the government to take a pro-active approach to tackling the issue of slavery and human trafficking both at home and abroad.

Don Foster MP has signed EDM 2166 on the arms trade of the UK Trade and Investment’s Defence and Security Organisation. The EDM reads:

That this House notes that the arms export priority markets for the UK Trade and Investment’s Defence and Security Organisation in 2010-11 included Algeria, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates; further notes that, with the exception of Libya, these sales efforts continue; is concerned by the inherent conflict between the Government’s promotion of military exports and its stated desire to help protect human rights overseas; and therefore calls on the Government to end the export of military equipment to all authoritarian regimes.
