August 18, 2023 by admin in News

Don Foster has signed EDM 1402 that states:

That this House welcomes the equalisation of the state pension age for men and women, but notes with concern the Government’s proposals to accelerate the timetable for doing so; recognises that 300,000 women born between December 1953 and October 1954 will have to work an additional 18 months or more of which 33,000 will have to work an extra two years; further recognises that these women have less than the 15 years of preparation time recommended by the Turner Commission before the changes take place; and calls on the Government to take these issues into account and revise the timetable in order to maintain the commitment given in the Coalition Agreement.

Don Foster has signed EDM 1960 that states:

That this House applauds the Tea Time for Change mass lobby for international development held on 9 June 2011; congratulates ActionAid, the Catholic Overseas Development Agency (CAFOD), Christian Aid, Oxfam, Save the Children and Tearfund in organising this hugely successful event and strengthening hon. Members-constituent relationships; commends their enduring commitment to fighting poverty and injustice; welcomes the Government’s ring-fencing of the international aid budget and its pledge to increase aid spending to 0.7 per cent. of Gross National Income; notes that international development can further be enhanced by pressing multinational companies to make public what they pay to governments in developing countries; further notes that financial transaction taxes have been identified as an innovative way of funding international development; and urges the Government to consider pursuing these measures through UK legislation, in the European Union and at the G20 meeting in November 2011.

Don Foster signs EDM 172: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AND ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION

August 17, 2023 by admin in News

Don Foster signed EDM 172 that states:

That this House notes that section 24 of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, as recently interpreted by the Court of Appeal, prevents the Home Office from disclosing all information, however trivial, about animal experiments that researchers want kept secret; agrees that information such as researchers’ names and addresses and genuinely confidential information should remain secret, but believes that the public should be able to access all other information, including what is being done to the animals and for what purpose; and calls on the Government to repeal section 24 of the 1986 Act using its powers under section 75 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
