Inadequate Public Transport Means Travellers Choose Cars

Commenting on a public opinion poll carried out by TravelWise Week, which found that nearly a third of all motorists refuse to give up their cars in favour of public transport, Don Foster MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, said...

"It's hardly surprising that many motorists prefer their cars to using public transport given the inadequacy and unreliability of many bus and train services.

"Congestion is choking our cities, with all of the health risks from pollution and economic consequences for businesses that this entails.

"With motoring costs falling and public transport fares rising, there's little chance of reversing the trend. If we're to persuade motorists out of their cars we need safe, reliable and affordable public transport alternatives."
