Government wasting billions on incorrect benefit payments

Commenting on today’s report by the Department for Work and Pensions shows that the cost of fraud and error in benefits payments was £2.6bn last year, Don said:

“It is an outrage that the Government is still wasting billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money on incorrectly paid benefits.

"Government efforts to reduce fraud and error are constantly undermined by Gordon Brown, who is hell-bent on making our tax and benefit system ever more complex through constant tinkering and means testing.

"It is particularly concerning that despite government efforts, fraud and error in housing benefit is still increasing.

"Fraud and error will remain endemic until the Government takes radical action to simplify our social security system."
