FOOTBALL RIGHTS BATTLE COULD HURT FANS - FOSTER

Commenting on today's deadline for bids for the broadcasting rights to Premiership football, Don Foster MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow DCMS Secretary said:

"Football fans want to see gripping contests between the biggest names in the game. Richard Branson v. Rupert Murdoch was not what they had in mind.


"If the only result of the EU's intervention is fans having to pay for several expensive TV packages instead of just one, it will have been a missed opportunity. There is a real danger that at the end of this rights battle, the fans will get hit in the pocket."
