Bath MP, Don Foster, attended a community-led meeting at the Bath Press site last night amid growing concerns that the site is to be bought and developed by Tesco.

Commenting, Don said:

“It has been very interesting to hear the views and opinions of local residents on this issue. People are understandably concerned that the potential opening of Tesco on the Bath Press site will lead to a reduction in trade of shops on Moorland Road.

“Moorland Road is a fantastic shopping area and we must make sure that it remains that way. Supermarkets can have an adverse effect on local shops, so if there is to be a supermarket we must look at how we can maintain a profitable Moorland Rd.

“What’s important is that as many residents as possible voice their views. I’m sure there will be differing opinions, but there are lots of issues that need to be taken into account, such as transport infrastructure. I hope that residents will make their views known. I will do everything possible to ensure that the voice of the local community is heard.”
