Rail Crash Report Delays Must End
Don Foster MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, speaking one year on from the Potters Bar rail crash, today urged the Government to implement the key outstanding recommendations from Lord Cullen's report into rail safety. Mr Foster also called on the Government to bring forward the long awaited final report into the 2000 Hatfield derailment.

"Our thoughts are of course with the victims of this terrible event and their families.

"Yet a year on from Potters Bar there are still many questions unanswered about this and other rail crashes. Even now we are waiting for the final report on the October 2000 derailment at Hatfield.

"These delays are completely unnecessary and result from confusion over the roles of the investigation bodies.

"The introduction of the Rail Accident Investigation branch, recommended by Lord Cullen, promises to speed up future accident investigations. But 33 of the rail safety measures in the Cullen Report are yet to be implemented.

"The traveling public deserves safe, affordable and reliable transport. Of these, safety must always be the number one priority."
