Royal Mail To Go Off The Rails
Commenting on today's news that Royal Mail is considering abandoning the use of rail in favour of a road-based network, Bath's MP, Don Foster MP who is Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Transport said...

Main Image"I urge Royal Mail to reconsider withdrawing from rail services in light of the benefits of rail freight and the jobs at risk.

"Rail freight is safer and more environmentally-friendly than road transit and it helps reduce the 20bn cost to British businesses caused by congestion.

"This decision is particularly worrying in light of Royal Mail's recent mothballing of their innovative underground Mail Rail service in London."

"Sadly, it is symptomatic of a wider lack of confidence in Government support of rail freight, given its support for the recent freezing of rail freight grants."
