Rail Chief Out Of Touch

Responding to the 'upbeat' comments made by the chairman of the Strategic Rail Authority, Richard Bowker, in the Financial Times today, Don Foster MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, said:

"While there is some truth in Bowker's assertion that, at last, a bit of common sense is prevailing in the way we plan for our railways, it is
disturbing that someone so senior is so out of touch with the experience of today's rail passengers.

"Delays have doubled and cancellations are up by 50%, leaves, snow and hot weather, in turn, make the situation worse and we have some of the highest fares and slowest trains in Europe."
