Foster Takes DCMS

Bath's MP, Don Foster, has taken the role of Shadow Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media & Sport in a reshuffle of the Liberal Democrat frontbench team.

Commenting, Don said:

"I'm delighted to take on this new and exciting challenge. It's the job I asked for. After three years raising the Liberal Democrats' profile on transport, it was time for something new but something directly relevant to Bath. After Transport, what could be better than a portfolio that links to Bath's tourism, heritage, cultural and sporting achievements?

"Nationally, too, there are huge issues - from the disgraceful plans by the government to plunder more money from the National Lottery to the implementation of the new Licensing Legislation. Other issues include the renewal of the BBC Charter, the Olympic Bid and the need for better sports funding.

"Of course, regardless of the portfolio I hold, my main priority will continue to be representing the best interests of my constituents."

ENDS.
