Foster Tackles First EDM!

Bath’s MP, Don Foster, is a primary sponsor of the first Early Day Motion (EDM) of the new Parliament, celebrating England’s victorious Rugby World Cup Team.

Main ImageOn the first day of Parliament, 144 EDMs were put down by MPs on topics as diverse as the Welfare of Greyhounds, VAT on Commemorative Headstones, Regional Assemblies, Internet Access, Speed Cameras and Degradable Plastic Bags.

But commenting on EDM Number 1, Don said,

‘I was delighted to co-sponsor this EDM, its position at Number 1 matches the magnificent and well deserved achievement of the England World Cup Team. My congratulations go out to the entire England Rugby set-up, and particularly the Bath contingent, Mike Catt, Iain Balshaw, Mike Tindall and Danny Grewcock.’

‘I look forward to seeing them return to action at the Rec.’

That this House congratulates the England rugby team for winning the Rugby World Cup; recognises that this was very much a team effort both on and off the pitch, the result of considerable preparation by all involved over several years; applauds all players for their commitment, passion, courage and style; welcomes the approval which they have generated in the eyes of the public for being worthy ambassadors both of rugby in particular and professional sport in general; pays tribute to coach Clive Woodward and captain Martin Johnson for their dedication and leadership; congratulates ace points scorer Jonny Wilkinson for being named the outstanding player of the tournament; and looks forward to seeing regular repeats on television of his winning drop goal in the closing seconds of extra time in the final to secure a well-deserved 20-17 points win over Australia in one of the greatest games of rugby ever played.
