Tories Fail to Vote Against Top-Up Fees

Don has said ‘the Conservative Party should be hanging its head in shame,’ after Tory MPs refused to vote against variable top-up fees in the Bills critical Standing Committee stage.

Main ImageCommenting, Don said:

“This has proved the Tories still can’t be trusted.

“Just like the old days when they were in government, they say one thing and do another.

“The Committee stage of the bill was crucial to strengthen the resolve of the opposition to these deeply unpopular and damaging proposals, but the Tories have let everyone down – not least students.

“My Liberal Democrat colleagues and I remain steadfastly resolved in our opposition to top-up fees – and will continue to take every opportunity to oppose them.”

Notes to Editors.

All 6 Conservative MP's on the committee declined to vote.

The Bill is likely to return to the floor of the House of Commons on Monday 15th or Tuesday 16th March for report stage and third reading.
