ARTS MINISTER AGREES TO INVESTIGATE MUSEUM U-TURN
Speaking in a debate in the House of Commons Don revealed another government U-turn.
The Government initially encouraged museums to take advantage of Gift Aid, only to announce in December's Pre-Budget Report their intention to end this 'exploitation of a loop-hole.'
Arts Minister Estelle Morris has requested copies of his research.
Commenting, Don Foster said:
"I'm delighted the Arts Minister is taking this threat to museums seriously.
"An unfair u-turn on Gift Aid would leave many museums facing serious financial problems.
"Museums have been made to feel that they are doing something wrong, and yet it was the Government which encouraged them to claim Gift Aid on admissions in the first place.
"It makes a mockery of the Government's stated aim of encouraging charitable giving."
