Don comments on return of British Guantanamo detainees to UK

Commenting on the return to the UK of five of the detainees from the US military base in Guantanamo Bay, Don said:

I welcome the fact that these men are no longer in legal limbo. Two years without proper recourse to lawyers or access to their families was too long.

According to UK law, these five men are entitled to the presumption of innocence; but if there is evidence which justifies a prosecution, the authorities should act accordingly.

The Liberal Democrats have never argued for special treatment of these men, but for fair treatment according to the law. They are entitled to no less.
