“Rail signals still stuck at red,” Foster says.
Bath MP, Don Foster yesterday met with the Transport Secretary of State, Stephen Byers, to raise the on-going problem of the poor state of signalling in the London Paddington area.
Seven months ago, the Cullen Report made its recommendations that signal sighting
and signalling round Paddington should be improved.
Don Foster commented:
“The need to improve signalling round Paddington is an issue of rail safety that directly affects rail passengers from the Bath area.
“People are obviously concerned to hear what action is being taken to make this line safer. I am still awaiting Stephen Byers’ confirmation that this work will be carried out before the spring.
“The Cullen Report on rail safety gave the Government 6 months to implement 41 out of 89 recommendations, which includes the Paddington improvements. Seven months on, the signals are still stuck at red.
“I collared Stephen Byers last week, I collared him again yesterday, and I will continue to collar him until I get a firm commitment as to when these vital safety measures will be implemented, and when they will be reported back on.”
ENDS.
