Hungry Hippos Win Breakfast Club Award

The Hungry Hippo Breakfast Club at Southdown Infant School has won one of the top awards for breakfast clubs in the UK.

Main Image“I think it’s a big achievement that this club - which has only been running for two years - has been given the Kelloggs Award for £2,500.

“The money they’ve won will be used to improve staffing of the club so that more pupils can come along and benefit from their hearty breakfasts.

“The whole idea behind this breakfast club is that they support the parents of children who have to go off to work before school starts. The Hungry Hippo Club means that they have somewhere for their children to go - where they are getting a decent breakfast and in educational environment.

“It’s actively supported with the help of parents, caretakers, staff and other volunteers from the local community.

“All those I talked to will stay on as members and thoroughly enjoy going.”

The awards have been organised by Education Extra, and Don Foster was a trustee of this organisation for several years.

They have been sponsored by a number of different firms.
