Public Transport Plans Hit The Tarmac

Don Foster MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, commented today on the Government’s proposed road building plans.

Main ImageHe said:

"The Government’s transport plan is in tatters. With any idea of long-term integrated transport planning out of the window it seems the Government is making it up as it goes along.

"Within days of shelving major rail improvement plans, the Government seems set to launch a huge road building programme.

"We’re back to the old ‘predict and provide’ on the roads, while for the railways its ‘predict and ignore’.

"When he became Transport Secretary Alistair Darling said he didn’t want to pour concrete all over Britain. He’s clearly given up. Now all we can look forward to is worsening public transport and bigger wider traffic jams."
