Don Foster, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, speaks for the party nationally on Transport.

Milburn’s madness in ‘sectioning’ the RUH: Foster.
Commenting on the Department of Health’s announcement today of the franchising arrangements for the RUH, Bath MP Don Foster, said: “Alan Milburn has placed a crazy gimmick ahead of an accurate assessment of how the RUH is performing.

Main Image“His diagnosis is wrong, and his treatment plan is, frankly, a public health hazard!

“The dictatorial action the Minister has taken is totally unfair. The 0-star rating confirmed the problems at the hospital 12 months ago, but it bears no relationship to the current levels of patient care at the RUH.

“The time and resources that must now be invested in the actual franchise bidding will detract from the good management of the RUH, which has made progress, month on month.

“The Department of Health may find these ridiculous stratagems enthralling – I view them as unproductive exercises in futility.

“A large amount of effort has gone into turning the hospital round. But because Milburn is intent on spinning his latest scheme, he has seized control in a way which has created unfounded panic among residents, patients and hospital staff.

“NHS Franchising gives us the very latest in life at the sharp end of ministerial madness.”

ENDS.
